KALAVRYTA TRIP

A marvelous trip to Peloponnese
 

Akrata Zarouchla Kalavryta 

Day 1:
Departure at 7: 30p.m. from your hotel . We will drive from Kiato and will reach Lake Stymfalia. We will continue to firs slopes of Ziria, where we will see some beautiful mountain villages, we will stop in Goura and then we will arrive at the Monastery of St. George, 17th century. We will see the "secret school" and try unique sweet rose offering the monks while we admire the unique view. Then we will stop to the Lake Doxa and the small church of Agios Fanourios in the lake, over a small land strip .We will make a stop, to walk to the church. We continue for Akrata ,where we have lunch by the sea ,cod with garlic sauce and drink ouzo! Arrival at the hotel, settling into rooms. The transition evening with coach at the village Platanos where the traditional tavern just have fun, with an amazing band live, folk and art music. Delicious food and dreamy local wine barrel. Dance is must for everyone! 

Day 2:

Breakfast at the hotel and free swimming at the beach. Early afternoon departure by coach for Tsivlou lake, "drowned" in a pine forest at 800 meters altitude. After you enjoy the dreamlike landscape, we depart for the nearby Zarouchla, a very beautiful and picturesque village at an altitude of 1050m. At one kilometer from the edge of the village begins the forest of Zarouchla consisting of firs and pines about 20,000 acres. A coffee riverside and local, traditional food(bean soup & spetzofai) Overnight and dinner to our hotel at Zarouchla.

Day 3: Breakfast in hotel and early departure for Diakopto, boarding the cog and through an imaginary journey, crossing the ravine Vouraikos passing Zachlorou reach Kalavryta. Visit the historic monastery of Agia Lavra and the monument of the fallen. Leisure Kalavryta and lunch. Then we'll make a visit to the unique historical Monastery of the Great Cave, which is "stuck" on a rock, a landscape of rare beauty! Then depart for our return to Athens stopover. End of our tour.

Day 1: From Athens to Akrata Zarouchla Kalavryta and back to Athens

Kalavryta 

Kalavryta is a town and a municipality in the mountainous east-central part of the regional unit of Achaea, Greece. The town is located on the right bank of the river Vouraikos, 24 kilometres (15 miles) south of Aigio, 40 km (25 miles) southeast of Patras and 62 km (39 miles) northwest of Tripoli. Notable mountains in the municipality are Mount Erymanthos in the west and Aroania or Chelmos in the southeast. Kalavryta is the southern terminus of the Diakopto-Kalavryta rack railway, built by Italian engineers between 1885 and 1895.

 

Akrata

Akrata, is a town and a former municipality in Achaea, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Aigialeia, of which it is a municipal unit.[2] Akrata is located on the right bank of the river Krathis, 3 km from its outflow into the Gulf of Corinth. The Greek National Road 8A/E65 (Patras - Corinth) and the railway from Patras to Corinth pass through the municipal unit, northeast of the town. The nearest town is Aigeira, 4 km to the east. It is 23 km southeast of Aigio, 52 km east of Patras and 23 km northeast of Kalavryta.

 

Zarouchla

Zarouchla is a small picturesque village on the slopes of Mount Helmos( the name Helmos means snowy mountain in Slav) or Aroania at 1200m of altitude. Swamped in vegetation, surrounded by fir forests of rare fauna it is a very popular destination of Peloponnese, especially frequented by the Athenians on weekends. It takes from 1.30 to 2 hours of driving from Athens, depending on your speed, to get to Zarouchla.

 

Lake Stymphalia is also mentioned in Greek Mythology, due to the Stymphalian birds, which infested the Arcadian woods near the lake. Heracles' sixth labour was to exterminate them.
