About Karpenisi

Karpenisi is an unremarkable market town in the middle of Roumeli, notable less for its own merits than for what's around it. The chief attraction, in fact, is the Karpenisi Ski Centre eight miles out of town on Mount Velouchi, perched nearly 6,000 feet above sea level at a spot called Diavolotopos – literally, Devil's place. This centre has ten pistes, seven ski lifts, the requisite number of restaurants and first aid facilities, and a stunning view of a good part of the central Greek mountain tops. While far away from the sea and the popular tourist destinations of the islands of the Aegean and Ionian, Karpenisi has become an important ski and outdoor sports center.Day 

 

JURNEY DESCRIPTION:

Day 1: Departure at 9:30 a.m.. from your hotel in Athens, half an hour stop in Moni Damastas and continue to Karpenissi . Our route as we left behind us Velouchi mountain leads to the beautiful capital of Evritania, Karpenisi, check in at hotel Helvetia and we go to eat to beautiful village Gavros, the delicious pestrofa fish or fresh local meat as we enjoy Kapenissiotis River view After 2 glasses of spring crystal clear water ,we continue eating! As we have Karpenissi by night, I believe that we must get some rest to our rooms (Angeliki has already fix the fireplace to the lobby area). Live music, Local wine and the night continues!

 

Day 2: Single Proussos - Small & Large Village

Breakfast and visit the Monastery of Panagia Prousiotissa. A short stop to admire Panagia s Steps, the local call it Typoma of Panagia. It is really unbelievable! Proussos is built in an impressive landscape, a steep, rocky area between Chelidona mountains Kaliakouda and Tymfristou mountain range. It is a place that our national hero Georgios Karaiskakis donate his guns and cure his illness (fymatiosis) Next stop is the Grand Village, built in forest at 720 meters altitude. The village square offers amazing views of the river valley Karpenisiotis and the peaks of Mount Chelidona, while very important is the Historical and Folklore rich folk art exhibits, church relics and tools of traditional professions. A little later we meet the little village and lunch in a traditional tavern with local specialties ribs of lamb in oven by Stamatia and very nice Kydoni sweet and Yogart for the end (I have taste them many times, you are going to do the same) Back at our hotel and the city, walks on the central square with small shops, local products and folk art. Dinner and entertainment in the evening and overnight.

 

Day 3: Kefalovrysso - Athens

After breakfast, visit to the picturesque village Kefalovrysso, only three kilometers from Karpenissi, one of the most beautiful and peaceful areas near when another national Hero Markos Mpotsaris died after a short term battle with the Ottomans Finally we go back to Athens ,after we have a look to Achilleas statue at Agios Georgios Village and buy the country sausages of Makis ! If you wish, we can drink a coffee at Kammena Vourla area ,by the sea
